Feb. 9, 2010- Opal is coming along well. She is back to her usual goofy self. We are still keeping her on restricted activity and monitoring her food intake. Sneaker seems jealous of the extra attention that Opal is getting and is bringing Duck Duck around to us more and more. April just goes with the flow as usual.
Feb. 8, 2010- Cody and I went to the library on the weekend. I read books so quickly that it makes more sense for me to get them from the library rather than buy them. Unfortunately I have read all of the books in our library that interest me. I guess we will just have to find other libraries close by and see what they have to offer. If you have not checked out your local library, do it soon. You might be amazed at what they have to offer. It isn't just books anymore !
Feb. 7, 2010- Migraine day , not much to write today.
Feb. 6, 2010- The other dogs seem to sense that Opal is not feeling like playing. They don't even entice her to come and play. Usually we walk Opal outside by herself . Opal's appetite has returned somewhat . I think that she enjoys all of the extra pampering that she is getting.
Feb. 5, 2010- Opal came home today. She has to take antibiotics for several days and avoid running around until after she has been back to the vet. She has sutures which will dissolve on their own and a very straight incision. Nice job Karen ! She needs to be rechecked in 10 days.
Feb. 4, 2010- Opal is going to have to stay at the vet's clinic for another night. Cody and I went up to see her and got her to eat a little bit of food. She really wanted to come home with us . We are hoping that she is doing better tomorrow.
Feb. 3, 2010- Opal was diagnosed with Pyometra today and had to be spayed. She will be staying overnight at the vet's and reassessed tomorrow to see if she can come home. She came through the surgery very well.
Feb.2, 2010-Happy Groundhog Day !
Well it is official ! All 3 furry celebrity weather prognosticators have proclaimed 6 more weeks of winter ! Yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy , can it get any better than this ? I think not. We really have not had much of a winter thus far. Sure there have been the odd snow days and white outs but we don't have nearly the snow that we have had other years.
We have noticed a lot more deer tracks and deer lays close to the house. Sometimes they are as close as 25 - 30 feet from the house. We have yet to catch a glimpse of them but we are still hoping to see them on some brightly moonlit night as they bed down for a few hours.
The pups are getting bigger and loving the snow. They go out to play with the adults sometimes and other times they play on their own. They love rolling in the snow and burying their heads deep in it just before they throw a headful of snow into the air. Watching them is like witnessing a bunch of human children playing. They don't have a care in the world . What would the world be without puppies ? Boring , boring , boring!
Feb. 1, 2010- What a week we had last week ! Got caught in blizzard like conditions coming home from Owen Sound. What should have been a half hour drive took us close to three hours. The white out conditions made it virtually impossible to see. There were cars and trucks in the ditches all along the way. We had to stop twice, in tiny communities along the way , just to clean off our windshield wipers which kept getting coated with ice. It seemed like everyone was having the same problems. Fortunately we made it home safely with nothing more than frazzled nerves.
On Friday we headed down to Stratford to pick up Cody's best friend. She was coming for a birthday weekend sleepover. On the way to Stratford, we came upon a car accident that had just happened. Chris , Cody and I stopped to help along with three other vehicles. It was very disheartening to see how many vehicles just kept on driving by without so much as stopping to see if they could help. The cell phone reception in that area is extremely poor. In fact it is an area where there is regularly a " dead zone". For some reason, that day, my cell phone was the only one that could get service. I was able to contact the 911 operator and kept relaying information about the injured parties. Then we had to help to immoblize one gentleman's neck until further medical assistance could arrive. Our thoughts and prayers go out to both families who were invovled in the accident and we would like to thank those other people who stopped to help. Hopefully others will do the same for you, should you ever be in an accident.
Cody had a good birthday weekend with her best friend Devynn. They watched movies into the middle of the night, played music , gabbed and caught up on old times. On Saturday they went out for supper and then went swimming. Sunday we went to church and then took Devynn back to Stratford. We can't wait until she comes back to visit again.
